These pauldrons with blade-breakers are crafted from riveted plates of mild steel. There are five plates in total and they are fitted to one another by riveted bands of leather on the interior - these leather bands allow the armour plates to be articulated and to move with the upper arm and shoulder movements of the wearer. The interior of the armour is blackened.
The armour is fitted to the wearer with a steel buckle and adjustable leather strap that fix the armour to the upper arm. A steel buckle is fitted to the upper part of the pauldron where it can be matched with a leather strap on either a gorget or chestplate to keep the upper part of the armour in place.
